  • Historical Information (taken from certificate):
The City Hall for the City of Okeechobee, Florida was designed by the architectural partnership of William Hatcher and Lawrence S. Funke from Ft. Pierce in 1926. The two story building commands the eastern edge of the large downtown park and is located at 55 SE 3rd Avenue. This beautiful old building is constructed of block and is one of the best publicly owned examples of our community's heritage. Its design is in the Mediterranean Revival style of archtecture that was popular in Florida during the great land boom of the 1920's.

Records show that City Council meetings have been held in the building since June 21, 1927. Along with the city chambers, the building has also housed the Okeechobee Police Department, the City Jail and the City Fire Department. This building has continued to function as the administrative offices of city government for 76 years.
